Meal Plan Policies
Fall 2016 Meal Plans will go active on Saturday, September 3rd, for brunch. There will be no meal service over Thanksgiving or Winter Break.
Meal Plan Swipes
All funds and plans purchased for use in University of Minnesota Dining Services at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities Campus are for the personal use of the owner of the account or plan only and are non-transferable. The University of Minnesota Dining Services funds and plans cannot be used as a gift card or gift certificate.
Except as otherwise expressly stated in these terms, all University of Minnesota Dining Services funds and plans are non-refundable and will expire on the last day of the current semester or at the earlier of the last day of enrollment or employment, as applicable.
Residential Meal Plan Change Requests
Residents of the traditional* Residence Halls may request a change to their Fall Semester 2016 Residential meal plans by going to www.housing.umn.edu/mealplanchange prior to 5:00 P.M, September 16, 2016. Please be aware that change requests placed prior to the start of Fall Semester classes will be effective immediately, but it may take up to one week for any financial adjustments to be posted to the student account. Additionally, later submissions during the change period replace earlier submissions.
Instructions for changing Spring 2017 meal plans will be emailed (from the Housing Office) in late October or early November. Please be aware that this email will also contain other Housing related information. Failure to read the email does not exempt students from the Spring 2017 Meal Plan Change process or its deadlines.The deadline for meal plan changes for students living in Residence Halls is December 22, 2016.
Residence Hall students new to campus with a Spring 2017 ONLY housing contract may submit a meal plan change request by emailing email@example.com with their name, student ID number, and specific meal plan change request. All change requests must be submitted on or before January 27, 2017. All emailed requests will receive a confirmation once the change has been processed.
Charges and credits for changing plans are prorated based on the type of plan, the date of the change request and FlexDine usage. There are no fees assessed for changing plans.
*This refers to students living in Bailey, Centennial, Comstock, Frontier, Middlebrook, Pioneer, Sanford, Territorial, and 17th Avenue Halls. Students living in the on-campus apartments (Roy Wilkins, University Village, or Yudof Halls should refer to the "University Apartment & Commuter Meal Plan Change Requests" topic below).
University Apartment & Commuter Meal Plan Change Requests
Cancellation Policy: Apartment, Commuter, and Faculty & Staff meal plans may be cancelled within 5 business days of initial purchase. If the plan is purchased before the beginning of the semester, the first day of meal service for the semester will be used as the purchase date. Refunds will be prorated based on the type of plan, the date of the cancellation request and FlexDine usage. There are no fees assessed for cancelling meal plans.
Change Policy: Apartment, Commuter, and Faculty & Staff plans purchased prior to the beginning of the fall or spring semester may be changed through the end of the second week of the semester. For Fall Semester 2016 the change request deadline is September 16, 2016.
Plans purchased after the beginning of Fall or Spring semester may be changed within 10 business days of purchase. When applicable, refunds will be processed to the original form of payment or may be converted to FlexDine.
To request a cancellation or change, please email University Dining Services at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please provide your name, student ID number and the specifics of your request. Once your request has been processed you will receive an email notification.

University of Minnesota Dining Services Meal Plans and FlexDine funds are non-refundable and non-transferable. Unused University of Minnesota Dining Services FlexDine balances remaining on your U Card at the end of each semester will remain available for your use until they are used or until one year of inactivity occurs on the account. After one year of inactivity, any funds remaining will revert back to the University of Minnesota.
